This question is on every Facebook user's mind after seeing dozens of seemingly pointless apps on friends' pages and being invited to countless more. I have been asked to buy and sell my friends, send a friend a snowball, SuperPoke someone, and virtually pet a friend's dog.
But, there are definitely a good amount that make smart marketing sense. Thus the topic of this post: when should a company create one?
This is a huge question, deserving of at minimum a lengthy white paper or, more likely, an entire weekend seminar in NYC with lots of international Facebook experts and networking happy hours. So for now, here are just a few Facebook apps that make good marketing sense. Specifically, I was looking for win-win apps - - good for both the user and sponsoring company:
TripAdvisor's Cities I've Visited - User gets to brag about the places they've been and seek ideas for new trips. TripAdvisor gets to be top-of-mind and just one-click away when users decide to plan their next trip
Bud Light's Check Your Dudeness - User gets to take a short, fun test and find out their ranking and compare with that of their friends. Bud Light gets another outlet for their commercial (it autoplays when you load the app) and an engaging and inexpensive way to support their TV campaign and spread it virally.
